Everything was fine... except the rooms!

My wife and I stayed here twice in a short period (before and after a hike). The staff, the lobby, the bar, the restaurant were all very fine. The rooms were horrible. The rooms look old, with dirty walls, ceilings and some of the furniture. Bathrooms were mostly clean. They should close the hotel and do a complete renovation of the rooms, especially for the price we paid. We paid the highest amount at this hotel while in NZ and had the worst rooms.

Comfortable motel

We found this studio accommodation to be very comfortable and the owners friendly and very helpful

Do take a side trip to Lake Hayes as it is so pretty there.

Great place, Stunning views

We stayed in a 1 bedroom queen suite. It was excellent. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom very spacious, lounge and kitchen well kitted out. All rooms were very well decorated with all mod cons.

Taupo is a beautiful city, perfect for a weekend of relaxation

Very, very nice

Beautiful location overlooking the lake with backdrop of various mountains but also just minutes away from city centre (by foot). Spacious modern room with balcony and a fantastic kingsize bed (!!! best bed we've slept in for ages). Pretty much everything was right about our stay (1 night). The ventilation in our bathroom was not working but I guess that should be fixed by now.

Queenstown is centre for outdoor and high adrenaline activities. If you like a more relaxed, quiter vibe, drive 15 minutes to Arrowtown, a small historic goldminer's town. Also for the romantic couple out there: THE best thing to do is the Onsen hot pools between Queenstown and Arrowtown. A private hottub with river and mountainview. Amazing.

Be very wary when booking a standard room at this hotel

On arrival at the Rydges, Lakeland, Queenstown we were impressed by the entrance lobby and foyer. We were initially given a twin room when we had booked a double standard room. We returned to reception and were then given the key to room 1002. As friends were waiting we dropped our bags and went out for the evening. On returning late, we were shocked by the appalling condition of the room. The furniture was old, dirty & damage.

Only the bathroom light and one side light worked. There was only one bedside cabinet, in a dreadful condition, with electrical wires exposed at the back. The only heating was a tiny oil radiator. The carpet was old, dirty and had a large hole in it. The fridge was in one side of the wardrobe and the other side didn't open due to the room door closure mechanism. We can honestly say this room deserved NO stars and this is classed as a 4 star hotel.

We have stayed at better backpackers. First time we have ever asked to move rooms, replacement room was fine.

Queenstown is a lovely town, with so much to do, the Milford Track is wonderful.
